AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a college preparation program for students with the determination to achieve at high levels. The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
AVID Curriculum
The AVID curriculum, based on rigorous standards, was developed by middle and senior high school teachers in collaboration with college professors. AVID is based on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR).
What happens in AVID classes?
AVID students complete college readiness activities and assignments to prepare them for the rigors of college. AVID students commit to weekly binder checks and bi-weekly progress report checks. They engage in AVID tutorials twice a week with college-aged tutors who guide and support them. AVID students also commit to extracurricular participation and community service and engage in career, college, and financial aid research.
